Charity can enhance governments impact, but cannot substitute government

Dear Indians,

Thanks once again for expressing your support to the Lok Satta cause and agreeing to join us to voice your demand for better governance in India. As you are all aware, our view point is that charity is highly commendable and required but charity alone is not enough. Charity can enhance governments impact, but cannot substitute government.

For example, by one estimate all the education related charities will take over 300 years to cover all of India working at current pace. The government shows large expenditure for education but has no results to show for it. AS per a Govt. of India report, no teaching activity takes place in 50% of all of rural Indian schools!! It is our strong opinion that we need to do our bit to keep government accountable. We are going to be there to explain our point of view and help convince others to join our cause.

We are also using this opportunity to spread awareness about NRI voting rights. As you aware, Parliament may pass an amendment to section 20 of Representation of people act 1950 to extend resident status for NRIs for voting purpose. However this bill requires physical presence on the election day. We are advocating the proxy voting and gather support from all NRIs world wide.
